Breakfast at the French Residence

June 15, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

Today, 40% of companies are owned by women in Uganda (UNDP) but there are still few statistics on gaps and opportunities for women in Uganda and in the workplace. Last week, the CAK and the French Embassy (Ambassade de France en Ouganda) programmed a breakfast at the French Residence on “Toward gender equality – inclusion in the workplace and women empowerment”. The CAK would like to express its deep gratitude to the French Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Xavier Sticker for hosting the event and the great introduction to the topic: “Gender equality is a fundamental right and a thorny issue to be dealt with. Our panelists’ field expertise will get us closer to reality.”

🙏 Thank you to Hon. Mrs. Peace MUTUZO, State for Gender and Culture and especially for the presentation of the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme and the great discussion leadership with other panelists: “We now need to see the transformation for women on the ground, for everyone to enjoy the same rights”.

💡 UN Women Uganda was also present, thank you Mrs. Paulina Chiwangu: “There are consistent barriers in the workplace but huge potential for transformational change.”

👏 Mrs. mary goretti akello has testified of her career progression at Sogea-Satom Uganda: “8 years in the company helped me to grow in my career”. Sogea-Satom Uganda has a diversity, equal opportunities, and non-discrimination policy. This ensures that there is equality and fairness in the workplace. In recent years, the number of Female recruits especially in the technical area has grown by 21%. Their focus is to have excellent talent and to further the growth of such in an African environment where there has been stigmatization of female abilities. They developed many gender programs (universities, internship program, women health). Philippe Robert

💯 Least but not last, CFAO CFAO Motors – Uganda launched the ‘Women in Automotive – Wheels Up’ initiative to provide a platform for women to share knowledge and experiences to uplift each other towards personal and professional growth among other brilliant projects. A big bravo to Evelynn Angeyo! Thomas Pelletier.

🎤 Thank you to all the other members who attend this special event and for the active participation in the discussions! Aurelie Duchateau, Harriet .R. Wandira, Ph.D., Anne Juuko.
