— Breakfast with StartHub Africa

StartHub Africa in collaboration with the Embassy of France is running “Innovate 4 Employment”, a 2-year program aiming at providing companies in Uganda with better talents while improving the employability of university graduates.

That’s why it invited HR Decision Makers from CAK members’company to a Breakfast Talent Meeting in order to introduce the program and gain further insights in the challenges the companies are facing working with university graduates.

A big thank you to Laura Althaus-Mugagga and Gerald Geria from StartHub Africa for the initiative and hosting the breakfast and to the participants: Evelynn Angeyo from CFAO Motors – Uganda, Olivia Kyomugisha from Stanbic Bank Uganda, Benard Ojiambo from Vallourec and Andrew Mafabi.

The biggest challenges we spoke about are related to soft skills lacking (self-presentation, self-confidence, report writting, networking, team-building, creativity/innovation, proactivity/attitude and emotional intelligence) and highlighted the need for the graduates to be exposed to the work environment before applying for the first job (qualitative internships, trainings, share of exeperience, etc.).

StartHub is currently conducting a needs-assessment to understand the gap from the perspective of the private sector and to find interested companies for collaboration. It developed a short needs assessment survey https://lnkd.in/eEjpEWam and highly appreciates if representatives of HR departments could fill the survey. Thank you for your commitment!
